It answers the question in its plainest form: what words can I make with these letters? There is no board and no game assumed, so nothing gets filtered out that you did not filter out yourself. That makes it the right starting point when you are working a puzzle whose rules you do not want to explain to a tool.
Three filters narrow the list when you do have constraints. Starts and Ends lock the first or last letter to something already on a board or grid, and the length grouping lets you jump straight to the four, five or seven-letter words the puzzle is asking for. Blanks are entered as a question mark.
What words can you make with a given set of letters?
More than most people guess. A seven-letter set of ordinary tiles typically yields well over a hundred valid words once you count everything from two letters upward, because English is dense in that region: there are 1,300 three-letter words and 5,469 four-letter words in the list this tool searches.
That density is the reason to read the list from the top down rather than scanning it whole. The longest results are the ones you could not have found unaided; the short ones you will spot yourself.
How do you find words of a specific length?
Results are grouped by length automatically, so a query for seven letters shows you the seven-letter block first. If you only ever want one length, the reference lists linked below hold every word of that length in the dictionary, filtered and scored, and each one has its own solver on the page.
This is the common case behind searches like four letter words with these letters or seven letter word unscramble. The mechanic is the same in every case: enter the letters, then read the block that matches the number of spaces you have to fill.
How do you narrow the list to a real board?
A raw list of every possible word is a starting point, not an answer. Lock the first or last letter with the Starts and Ends filters when you are playing through a tile that is already down, and use the contains option when a letter has to appear but you do not know where.
Each filter you add throws away plays you could not have made anyway. On a crowded Scrabble or Words With Friends board that usually reduces a hundred results to five or six that genuinely fit.

Can I require a specific letter?
Yes. Starts and Ends lock the first or last letter, which is what you need when playing through a tile already on the board. The contains option on the home solver requires a letter to appear somewhere without fixing its position.
How many letters can I enter?
Up to eighteen, which comfortably covers a seven-tile rack plus several letters already on the board. Larger sets simply return more words and take marginally longer.
Does it handle repeated letters correctly?
Yes. Letters are treated as a multiset, so if you enter two E tiles no result will use three. This matters on racks like SETTEES where a naive matcher would suggest words you cannot actually build.
Are the scores Scrabble or Words With Friends values?
The scores on this page are Scrabble values. For Words With Friends values, which price J at 10 and L, N and U at 2, use the Words With Friends solver instead.
Why do some results look like words I have never seen?
The dictionary is a large open English word list built for word games, so it includes obscure but game-legal entries. Every result links to its own page with a definition where one exists, plus its score and anagrams.
