The scoring difference is real and it changes decisions. J is worth 10 in Words With Friends against 8 in Scrabble. S drops from 1 to 1 but L, N and U rise to 2, while B, C, F, M, P and W all sit at 4. Feed the same rack to a Scrabble finder and the top of the list comes back in the wrong order.
Use the Starts and Ends filters to match a tile already on the board. Words With Friends uses a 15 by 15 grid with its own bonus layout, so the plays that win games are usually the ones that reach a triple word or a triple letter square rather than the ones that are simply longest.

Why are Words With Friends scores different from Scrabble?
Zynga set its own tile values. The headline differences: J moves up to 10, V up to 5, and H, G and Y sit at 3, while L, N, U and D are 2. Scrabble, by contrast, prices H and Y at 4 and L, N and U at 1. The tables below show both side by side so you can see exactly where a word gains or loses.
The consequence is practical. A word full of L, N and U tiles scores better in Words With Friends than in Scrabble, and a word leaning on H or Y scores worse. If you play both games, do not carry a Scrabble instinct across.
How big is the Words With Friends bingo bonus?
Playing all seven of your tiles in one turn adds 35 points in Words With Friends, against 50 in Scrabble. The bonus is added after the letter and word multipliers are applied, so it is a flat 35 and never gets tripled along with the word.
Because the bonus is smaller, holding a rack hostage while you hunt for a seven-tile play is a worse trade here than in Scrabble. A solid 40-point play now usually beats waiting two turns for a bingo worth 35 plus change.
How do you use a Words With Friends solver on a real board?
Type your rack, then add the board letter you want to play through and lock it with the Starts or Ends filter. The list shrinks from every theoretical word to the handful that fit the lane you are aiming at.
Then look at what the play leaves behind. Opening a triple word lane next to your own word hands your opponent the game, so a slightly lower-scoring word that closes the lane is often the better move. The solver ranks by points; the decision about risk is still yours.

Frequently asked questions
Are the Words With Friends and Scrabble word lists the same?
No. They overlap heavily but each game keeps its own dictionary, so some words are accepted in one and rejected in the other. Unscrambly searches a broad English word list that covers the large majority of plays accepted in both, and flags nothing as officially valid in either.
Why are Words With Friends scores different from Scrabble scores?
The games use different tile values. In Words With Friends J is worth 10 and V is worth 5, while H, G and Y are 3 and L, N, U and D are 2. Scrabble prices J at 8, V at 4, H and Y at 4 and L, N and U at 1. The same word can therefore score differently in each game.
How many points is a Words With Friends bingo?
35 points for using all seven tiles in a single turn, added after any letter and word multipliers have been applied. Scrabble pays 50 for the same achievement.
Does the solver account for bonus squares?
No. It gives the raw word value, because the bonus depends entirely on which squares you cover. Choose your placement first, then pick the highest-scoring word from the list that reaches the bonus.
Which tiles should I hold on to in Words With Friends?
The blanks first, then the J, Q, Z and X, which are worth 10, 10, 10 and 8. Unlike Scrabble, the S is only ordinary here, so there is little reason to hoard one when it can open a second word for you now.
Can I use a blank tile in the solver?
Yes. Enter a question mark for each blank and the solver tries every letter in that slot. Blanks score zero, so they are worth playing for length and for the 35-point bonus rather than for tile value.
Is using a Words With Friends solver allowed?
Zynga does not police outside tools, and most players treat solvers the way chess players treat an engine: fine for learning and analysis, poor sport in a serious head to head. Use it to learn the two-letter list and the high-value tiles and your unaided game improves too.
